2019 Workshops

October 5 • Artistic Expression and Intuition • Sandra Orellana Sears, MA, MIM

This seminar is for individuals interested in accessing and honing the authentic, creative voice within. As an artist, performer, and Intuition Medicine® practitioner, I am constantly studying the correlation between one’s creativity, physical vitality, spiritual health, and authentic voice. In this seminar, we will explore the relationship between creative expression, the subtle body, and developing an artistic practice of any kind – painting, drawing, writing, cooking, dancing, theater, martial arts and everything in between! We will also investigate the energetic blockages that may impair or interfere with one’s creative expression. If you do not consider yourself an “artist” – come anyway! This seminar is open to anyone interested in unleashing their vibrant creativity within…believe it or not, we are all artists! Please bring a journal, pens, markers, watercolors, or anything else that inspires your inner child.

In this workshop we will cover:

  • How to care for the Inner Artist/Inner Child with compassion
  • Removing energetic blockages or limiting beliefs relating to creative expression
  • Chakra settings to support you in authentic expression – with focus on the 4th, 5th, and 7th
  • How to direct/manage creative energy in hand chakras
  • Creating from the Meditation Sanctuary vs. Analyzer
  • Aligning one’s creative expression with spiritual embodiment

Sandra has studied the arts from a young age. As a child, she was interested in drawing, painting, photography, and dance. Sandra has a BA in Studio Art and Art History from Columbia University and went on to finish her Master’s Degree in Contemporary Art at Sotheby’s Institute of Art with a specialization in Photography. She visits Brazil every year to photograph, film, and study modern dance, Capoeira, and traditional Afro-Brazilian movement in Salvador, Bahia. She currently lives in Venice, California where she works as a freelance artist and curator and has a private Intuition Medicine® practice.

November 9 • The Interconnectedness of Acupuncture Meridians, Chakras, Emotions • Connie Prodromou LAc, MIM

Enhancing your Energy Medicine Toolbox. Do you or a client have a stubborn health issue that you haven’t been able to resolve? In this workshop, you will learn some ways to think outside the box to help find solutions to long-standing problems. Oftentimes we are looking so hard at what we think is the problem that we can’t see what is underneath it which actually may be the root cause. In the practice of Energy Medicine if only the symptoms are treated without addressing the root cause, those as well as other symptoms may return.

This workshop will include:

  • A brief introduction to chakras as they relate to the organ/meridian theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine including areas of the body that they relate to and possible symptoms.
  • Internal (emotional) and external (physical agents) causes of dis-ease according to Traditional Chinese Medicine theory and how they might be the underlying cause of dysfunction.
  • Questions to ask to determine possible root causes or contributing factors associated with time of day, time of year, diet, lifestyle, life traumas, and relationships.
  • Suggestions on how to use this information to resolve the issues.

The goal of the workshop is to introduce you to new ways to assess health issues that are found below the surface or by looking at the problem holistically instead of in parts. This information can be used for your own health challenges or for your clients if you are a practitioner.

January 18 • Sound Medicine: Ease Your Journey • Elizabeth Krasnoff, MIM

Why Sound?

It’s hard to tune yourself when you don’t know what being tuned up feels like. I will share with you how I practice tuning my energetic body and my nervous system using the Biosound® therapy system, organic sound, Academy of Intuition Medicine® techniques (Grounding, Life Force, Meditation Sanctuary) and Heartmath®.

The nervous system is the core of our conscious beingness as humans. It is what gives us dominion or caretaker status on this planet. It is our connection to essence and non-physical being. In short, this is an important portal to maintain and nurture. In my practice, I have seen how effective sound and meditation techniques are at communicating with and calming our nervous system.

In this workshop we will focus on “Heart Awakening” and “Self Soothing”.

Why Heart Awakening?

Our nervous system has two main organs, our heart and our brain. Heartmath® has published peer review studies establishing the heart-brain connection and showing that the heart is the lead organ in this duo. Therefore the first step of this process is to open and become aware of your heart. The second step is to align and connect your heart and your brain. This alignment, when heart and brain are talking and guiding your nervous system in collaboration, is called coherence in the Heartmath System, or state of grace in the Acadamy of Intuition Medicine® system. A state of coherence, or grace, allows access to your full intuitive and healing powers, gives you resilience, a strong immune system, vitality and longevity, and anchors your feelings of compassion and love.

In my sound practice, I start with 20 minutes of sound alignment to create a receptive state. Then I use Heartmath® HRV (heart rate variability) and coherence diagnostics to visually map the grounding process of our chakras and various organs. As the “out of alignment” energetic is found, and brought back into alignment, coherence appears on the screen. In other words, your heart now has the support it needs to run the show. In that moment, it is possible to memorize what “being in tune” for that chakra or organ or system feels like. That newly felt and memorable balance can be recalled and restored at any time now.

Why Self Soothing?

For all of us, and especially for highly sensitive people (HSP), civilization is a jarring, even wounding experience. And our laser-fast technological advancements, miraculous and even life-saving as they can be, are a challenge for our nervous systems on several levels. Just to broadly name a few categories, the environmental toxins of the Industrial Age have fed and bred a host of formidable viruses. These viruses live in our nervous system and wreak havoc. We are having an anxiety epidemic and haven’t figured out why yet — one part of how we can help is soothing. Secondly the millions of frequencies we are now exposed to from dirty electricity to satellite communication to microwaves to cell phones to every manner of communication device — these all penetrate our energetic and physical systems daily. The natural frequencies that we thrive in, such as the Schumann frequency, are only found in nature. We live distracted and disconnected from our life giving rhythms.

In my practice, I create an essential daily check-in where I use sound to soothe my nervous system, tune myself to a calm place and regain balance. There are many ways to do this. Toning with a crystal bowl, tuning with your own vocals, or resting on a vibro acoustic sound bed and listening to music, adding binaural beats which synchronize the left and right brain hemispheres, and selecting frequencies which put you in a desired brain state (delta, theta, alpha or beta). This is helpful when you do not have access to a walk in nature (which does the same tuning/healing), or are too tired or just unable to walk. Other reasons to enjoy sound healing are — if you are an auditory learner, or perhaps clairaudient, or perhaps just love music.

In short we will look at heart awareness and self soothing, and ways to get there using tuning and toning with the natural human body, instruments, and technologies such as Biosound®, Heartmath® and the Acadamy of Intuition Medicine® systems.

February 22 • End of Life/Energy Medicine Training • Tamara Shearer, RN, MIM / Lisa Geren, Hospice Caregiver, MIM / Holly Strother, RN, MIM

The following topics will be covered:

  • A summary of the signs and symptoms of death and dying
  • An overview of energy medicine tools to prepare for death and dying of self or a loved one
  • A Guided Meditation on death and dying and the essential role of compassion
  • An exploration of grief, sorrow and the healing journey of loss
  • Discussion on finding meaning and new directions after the loss of a loved one(s)
  • An invitation to participate in a group activity to honor deceased family or friends

Lisa Geren, MSW, MIM is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Work where she studied Gerontology and Aging as a specialty. Lisa has worked as a Medical Hospice Social Worker for over 8 years and has been able to use many of the Intuition Medicine® tools to assist hospice patients and their families with end of life care as well as grief counseling.

Tamara Shearer RN, MIM has worked as a nurse for 25 years. During that tenure, she has worked with the dying in various settings, from ICU to homes and facilities, across the age span, from infants to elderly. She currently assists hospice patients and their families with end of life care, incorporating Intuition Medicine tools for self-care and facilitating transitions.

Holly Strother RN, MIM has worked as a nurse at the bedside for 16 years, and in Hospice care for the past 6 years. Holly graduated from AIM in 2012 and has been incorporating Energy Medicine in her life and practice daily. The foundations of Intuition Medicine® allowed Holly to move into Hospice Care with ease and grace, and not at all coincidentally directly after graduating from AIM. The death passage is a powerful portal, one of great mystery, compassion, and absolute presence. In sitting at the bedside with the dying, Holly has noticed over and over that by abiding in Presence and Compassion, connected to Spirit, this supports a deep letting go and surrender to what IS. In essence, there is no “doing” in death, only BE-ing.

February 29 • A Practical Guide to Lucid Dreaming and the Art of Living Lucidly • Robert Waggoner

Full-day • Workshop fee: $150 (includes Robert Waggoner’s book Lucid Dreaming Plain and Simple)

Scientifically validated for forty years, recent neuroscientists have deemed lucid dreaming a “hybrid state of consciousness” since the dreaming brain and portions of the waking/conscious brain show simultaneous activation. In other words, when you are lucid dreaming, your conscious mind and your subconscious mind join in a shared creative collaboration, which naturally creates a unique, hybrid state of consciousness.

On the surface, lucid dreaming seems simple, curious and fun — a paradoxical state in which you know you are dreaming, while you are dreaming. There, you can fly through space, create fire breathing dragons or magical unicorns, and cast spells like Harry Potter, all in the safety of your subconscious mind. Lucid dreaming’s potential for creative play and joyous pleasures seems infinite.

However, throughout history, experienced lucid dreamers have used lucid dreaming as an expressway into greater spiritual development. Aware in the dream you can engage your larger awareness and the inter-connected knowing that Carl Jung theorized as the collective unconscious. Aware in the dream, you can resolve persistent issues and resolve ailments and suffering. Aware in the dream, you can perform spiritual practices, and discover why the Indian Buddhist yogi, Naropa, suggested that the main technique of dream yoga, lucid dreaming, offers serious students one of the six pathways to enlightenment.

Robert Waggoner wrote the acclaimed book, Lucid Dreaming — Gateway to the Inner Self (now in its tenth printing), and co-authored Lucid Dreaming Plain and Simple with Caroline McCready. Both books are available in Audible, Kindle and CD/Mp3. His books have been translated into French, German, Chinese, Korean, Czech, Finnish and other languages.

A past President of the International Association for the Study of Dreams (IASD), Waggoner serves as co-editor of the online magazine, Lucid Dreaming Experience, (ISSN 2167-616X); the only ongoing publication devoted specifically to lucid dreaming. A lucid dreamer since 1975, he has logged more than 1,000 lucid dreams.

Robert speaks on the science and practice of lucid dreaming internationally, conducts online workshops with and travels around the world teaching people about the depth and beauty of lucid dreaming.

March 28 • Be Present — Be Grounded • Miriam Moussaioff, MIM

A Body-Centered Approach to Practicing Presence and Intuitive Awareness

Energy Medicine teaches us that opening to intuition starts by being present in our bodies. Our bodies are the foundation for healing, the doorway to intuitive knowing and a rich inner life. The transformation and healing we seek happen inside the body, not just the mind.  And yet for many of us, “being in our bodies” is no easy task. Especially during these turbulent times.

In this workshop, Miriam will draw from her training in Energy Medicine and Rosen Bodywork to teach simple practices that support presence and grounding in the body.  This workshop offers a safe space to relax, reconnect with your body and emotional center, strengthen your ground and open to intuitive guidance —that amazing wellspring of deep knowing and love within. In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Practice listening to and being present in your body
  • Learn how to influence what is happening in your body emotionally, physically and energetically
  • Strengthen your capacity to hold a safe, grounded, compassionate space for your self and others
  • Explore how change happens naturally in the body when you open to and allow what is, without trying to fix anything
  • Experience the gentle, healing non-intrusive touch of Rosen Bodywork
  • Sit deeply inside your self

“Don’t go outside your house to see flowers.
My friend, don’t bother with that excursion.
Inside your body there are flowers.
That will do for a place to sit...”

             ~ Kabir

Miriam Moussaioff is an Academy alumna who has been practicing intuitive energy healing and Rosen Method Bodywork for 29 years.  Miriam teaches intuitive development, somatic awareness and grounding practices that deepen presence and support embodiment. She loves helping people listen to their bodies and trust their intuition. Miriam maintains a private practice in Berkeley, CA and brings a compassionate approach to her work.
